Five individuals suspected of being involved in a string of thefts in Nairobi have been apprehended by detectives. These suspects are notorious for targeting locked vehicles in the city and have been linked to the theft of significant amounts of money from a businessman in the South C area of Nairobi. The victim reported the incident to the Akila Police Station in Lang’ata after discovering that his BMW X1 had been broken into while he was at an auto parts shop.
The victim recounted that he had parked his vehicle along Muhoho Road near Rubis Petrol Station and had only been away for a few minutes when the theft occurred. Upon returning to his car, he found that his rear window had been smashed, and a bag containing a substantial sum of money was missing. Additionally, his ATM cards, national ID card, smart driving license, and important work-related documents were also taken. Subsequent withdrawals were made from his bank accounts, further adding to the victim’s distress.
Following a thorough investigation by the Nairobi region Crime Research team, the suspects were tracked down and apprehended with the help of CCTV footage. The first suspect was caught on camera breaking into the vehicle, while the second and third suspects were seen acting as lookouts during the crime. Efforts are underway to recover additional stolen property and locate a sixth accomplice who managed to evade capture by fleeing to Mombasa. The five suspects have been taken to the DCI Lang’ata offices and are currently in custody as the investigation continues.
