In the wake of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of Chief of Defence Forces Gen Francis Ogolla, Vice Chief of Defence Forces Lt Gen Charles Muriu Kahariri has stepped up to fill the void. As the acting CDF, Lt Gen Kahariri will assume the responsibilities of the position until a permanent replacement is appointed. This ensures that there is no vacuum in the military leadership, as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces is fully capable of taking on the role in the interim.

Lt Gen Kahariri wasted no time in assuming his new role as acting CDF. Immediately following the tragedy, he stepped in to lead the defense forces and will continue to do so until a substantive general is appointed. This seamless transition ensures that there is continuity in the military’s operations and decision-making processes during this challenging time. Lt Gen Kahariri’s experience and expertise make him well-suited to handle the responsibilities of the position until a permanent successor is named.

The appointment of Lt Gen Kahariri as the acting CDF has brought about speculation regarding the future leadership of the military. With the recent changes announced in the institution, many are curious about who will ultimately succeed Gen Ogolla. While the late CDF had a year or two left to serve, the focus now shifts to identifying the next military boss. The National Defence Council will convene to discuss and deliberate on potential candidates, providing recommendations to the President, who will ultimately make the appointment. Until then, Lt Gen Kahariri will continue to serve as the acting CDF, ensuring stability and continuity in the military’s operations.
