Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has come forward to defend his fellow Azimio principals who are facing potential arrest and prosecution for corruption allegations. Speaking in Mumias, Kakamega County, Kalonzo expressed his support for former governors Mwangi wa Iria and Wycliffe Oparanya, who have been recommended for charges by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Office of Director of Public Prosecution. Kalonzo emphasized that the fight against corruption should not be weaponized and called for a fair investigation into government officials as well.

Meanwhile, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga has taken a step back from active local opposition politics as he focuses on his bid for the African Union Commission chairperson position. This shift in focus has allowed Kalonzo to step up and defend his fellow party members. The timing of the defense comes after Mwangi wa Iria was accused of conflict of interest in relation to a publicity tender during his time as Murang’a Governor. Kalonzo’s statement highlights the need for a balanced approach in tackling corruption and urges authorities to go after the real criminals.

Kalonzo also expressed his concern over the selective prosecution of individuals, pointing out that there are people with criminal cases currently serving in the government. He called for a thorough investigation into all cases of corruption, regardless of political affiliations. By speaking out in support of his colleagues, Kalonzo aims to ensure that justice is served fairly and that the fight against corruption remains unbiased and effective. His remarks shed light on the challenges faced in the political landscape and the importance of holding all individuals accountable for their actions.
