Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has revealed that only 3,000 bags of fertiliser in circulation were deemed substandard. According to Linturi, the government’s e-voucher system is sophisticated enough to easily track the distribution of these bags. This system can pinpoint the exact time and location where the substandard bags were supplied, as well as identify the farmers who received them.
Linturi emphasized that the issue was isolated to a specific batch of fertiliser and that the rest of the supplies under the government subsidy programme met quality standards. He urged affected farmers to return the substandard fertiliser. The CS assured that the government is taking steps to rectify the situation and ensure that farmers receive high-quality fertiliser for their agricultural needs.
In an interview on Citizen TV, Linturi clarified that the figure of 3,000 bags referred to those that had been thoroughly checked and confirmed as substandard. He reiterated the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in the distribution of agricultural inputs, reassuring the public that measures are in place to address any issues that may arise in the supply chain.
