In a terrifying incident, Jane Nyambura Kanja was attacked by three men as she left work one evening. They wrestled her to the ground and made off with her handbag, which contained three phones and cash. However, justice prevailed as one of the attackers was apprehended thanks to the light that illuminated the scene. After being convicted for robbery with violence, the man’s appeal was unsuccessful, resulting in a 23-year prison sentence.

The stolen items included a Sony Experia worth Sh60,000, a Samsung valued at Sh12,800, and an Itel phone worth Sh8,500. In addition to the phones, the robbers also made off with Sh6,000 in cash. Nyambura recounted the harrowing experience in court, explaining that she was on her way to the car parked by her husband when the attack occurred. Due to another vehicle blocking the driver’s door, she had to enter through the passenger’s side. It was then that she noticed three men approaching, prompting her to scream for help. A struggle ensued, resulting in the thieves fleeing with her handbag.

Nyambura wasted no time in reporting the incident to the police and informing her husband. After a week, she received a call from the authorities, instructing her to visit Tigoni police station in Limuru. They informed her that a man had been arrested and she needed to identify if he was one of the attackers. The investigating officer revealed that the suspect, Kelvin Ndung’u Wangui, had initially been apprehended for drug possession but was also suspected of involvement in multiple robberies. Nyambura positively identified him, noting a distinctive scar that she had seen on one of the attackers. With the evidence against Wangui deemed compelling, the court upheld the lower court’s judgment, ensuring that justice was served.
