The search for the missing police officer who tragically drowned while trying to rescue a family in Nairobi’s Kamukunji area is still ongoing, with no sign of his body four days later. Constable David Chesire’s AK47 rifle, which was loaded with 30 bullets at the time, is also missing. Despite the efforts of rescue teams camping at the site where he was swept away by flash floods, and searching downstream, there has been no success in locating him.
The dedicated teams have resorted to using excavators to demolish the area in hopes of finding the officer’s body. Chesire, who was the only son in his family, has left his loved ones devastated. His family has been present at the scene of the incident since Tuesday, standing by with the rescue team in the search efforts. Meanwhile, the city has witnessed a grim discovery of 11 bodies in various locations following the heavy rains that hit the area on Sunday night and Monday morning.
Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei confirmed the recovery of the 11 bodies and expressed concern that the death toll may increase as more families report missing loved ones. Despite the relentless search for Chesire’s body, there has been no success yet. The teams remain on the ground, determined to locate any bodies that may be found. The community continues to hold onto hope while grappling with the tragic consequences of the flooding that has affected many lives in the city.
