Senior Sergeant John Kinyua Mureithi, a victim of the devastating KDF helicopter crash in Elgeyo Marakwet, tragically lost his life on Thursday, April 18. His wife, Grace Wambui, shared the heartbreaking details of their last conversation, which took place just moments before the accident occurred.
In their brief phone call, the couple from Kirinyaga discussed their family’s future plans, completely unaware of the impending tragedy that would shatter their dreams. Little did they know that their aspirations would be crushed in an instant.
Grace Wambui, speaking to the Nation, revealed that she spoke to Mureithi on the phone a mere nine minutes before the accident. During their conversation, he inquired about her whereabouts and whether she had eaten lunch. Wambui tearfully recounted, “He asked if I had taken lunch, but I told him I hadn’t because I was still at work. It was around 2:11 pm. I asked him the same question, and he informed me that he was busy at work.”
As the reality of her husband’s tragic death sank in, Wambui couldn’t hold back her tears. “We had so many wonderful plans for our family. It’s heartbreaking that they will never come to fruition because he is no longer with us. God took him away before our dreams could become a reality,” she sobbed.
