Nakuru-based entrepreneur Maina Wakabura found himself in the hot seat on Wednesday as the State Intelligence team questioned him regarding his alleged involvement in financing protesters. The accusations against Mr. Wakabura suggested that he had been backing troublemakers to infiltrate the anti-Finance Bill 2024 demonstrations, with the intention of sowing chaos and undermining the government.
In response to the allegations, Mr. Wakabura’s legal representative informed the authorities that his client had not organized or provided financial support to protesters during a 60-minute interrogation. Despite the serious nature of the accusations, the businessman maintained his innocence and denied any involvement in the activities that were being investigated.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made a plea to the youth of Kenya on Wednesday, urging them to halt the protests. He assured that once the demonstrations ceased, the national government would take firm action against the troublemakers who had been infiltrating the protests to incite disorder. As tensions continued to rise, Ruto’s administration sought support from International Organizations to address the escalating situation, while Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi engaged with diplomats to provide updates on the unfolding events in the country.
