A tragic incident occurred on Friday along the Thika-Garissa Highway in the Makongeni area of Thika town, resulting in the loss of four lives.
The victims of this unfortunate accident included two women, a 10-year-old boy, and the tuk-tuk driver.
The accident took place when a speeding bus, bound for Ukambani, collided with the tuk-tuk from behind.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying scene as the bus crashed into the tuk-tuk, causing it to roll over and resulting in the fatal crushing of its occupants.
Francis Muthee, an eyewitness, recalled hearing a loud bang and witnessing the tuk-tuk being dragged by the bus, while rescue efforts were made to save those inside.
Unfortunately, the occupants of the tuk-tuk had already suffered fatal injuries, leaving the scene even more distressing.
In an attempt to avoid the anger of the gathering locals, the bus driver fled the scene after the accident.
Local trader Samson Njau placed the blame for the accident on the bus driver’s negligence, accusing him of overtaking the tuk-tuk at high speed and without considering the safety of other road users.
This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the need to prioritize the safety of all individuals on the road.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
