The highly anticipated WRC Safari Rally Kenya kicks off today with President William Ruto flagging off the event at KICC. Following this exciting start, a Super Spectator Stage at Kasarani will cover 4.84 kilometers before the action moves to the Service Park in Naivasha for a three-day showcase. The Service Park, situated at the Kenya Wildlife Research Training Institute, is the hub of the rally where teams make final adjustments to their vehicles with the assistance of their dedicated mechanics.
Throughout the rally in Naivasha, drivers will navigate various routes including Malewa, Loldia, Elementaita, and Soysambu. Spectator stages are set up along these routes, culminating in the Hells Gate National Park where the closing ceremony will take place and the winners will be announced. The event promises thrilling competition and a showcase of skill and speed as drivers tackle the challenging terrains and conditions of the rally.
Prior to the official start, on Wednesday, rally drivers engaged in a demanding 5.4-kilometer shakedown at Loldia Ranch in the Ndulele Conservancy in Naivasha. The purpose of the shakedown is to provide a preview of the road conditions, allowing drivers to fine-tune their cars and adapt to the weather they will face during the rally. While no points are awarded during this phase, a strong performance during the shakedown boosts morale and offers valuable insights into the readiness of the teams for the main event ahead.
